Meet Alicia Brigham M.A., LPC
Behavioral Health Care Manager
What got you interested in healthcare?
I knew from a young age that I wanted to be an intervention for people to make changes in their lives. I was always an inquisitive child who offered solutions to what I identified as problems in my family members’ lives. I did not know what to call it, but this desire to help would eventually lead me to becoming a Licensed Professional Counselor.
Is there something that you missed from your own healthcare experience that Iron Health specifically addresses?
I think Iron Health does a good job of making people feel like unique individuals with unique needs versus another statistic and that is often how I have felt with previous providers. After a traumatic labor experience and loss, I would have specifically benefited from the peripartum mental health program and would have trusted my OBGYN if she had made the referral.
What’s something you wish people knew more about? Or what’s a secret health or wellness tip/practice that you live by?
I wish people talked about women’s health more often and that women did not feel shame in discussing their experiences. I wish women’s reproductive health was discussed more and that abnormalities could be easier identified due to widespread knowledge.
What makes you most excited about working at Iron Health?
I am excited to work at Iron Health because I believe in the mission and we are doing meaningful work. Women no longer have to suffer in silence and hopefully they receive relief from having an organization invested in their total wellbeing.
What does "strengthening the healthcare system” mean to you?
Strengthening the healthcare system means striving for an equitable system in which all demographics feel represented and advocated for in their care. Common barriers such as knowledge and access should continue to be addressed.
Let’s discuss
I encourage patients, peers, and family alike to be intentional in their pursuit for their unique quality of life formula. Awareness without implementation of change is futile.
Any funny or embarrassing personal stories that you’d like to share?
One time I went for an annual with my PCP and after reviewing the risks of being overweight he told me that I should stop eating cheese and I would lose weight. It may or may not have been effective, but I just remembered thinking that cheese was the cause of all my life’s problems.
When you’re not working, where can we find you?
Exercising in my garage, taking a zumba class, going dancing or just dancing around the house, and traveling any and everywhere.
